Don Mateo Cupreata
Made from Cupreata cultivated in the highlands of Michoacán—at an elevation of around 7,500 feet—this mezcal reflects the unique terroir of the region, marked by sandy soils and moderate rainfall. The agave is cooked in an earthen pit with oak and volcanic stones, hand-crushed with wooden mallets, fermented in open-air wooden vats with wild yeast, and double-distilled in a traditional Filipino-style wood and copper hybrid still. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet with herbal, floral, fruity, and toasted notes, accented by hints of candy. The palate is vibrant and layered, offering fresh mint, fruity nuances, and subtle dried chili flavors such as guajillo and pasilla. Warm and slightly soft in texture, this mezcal delivers great intensity and excellent persistence on the finish. A pleasant distinctive mezcal crafted by Maestro Mezcalero Emilio Vieyra, whose family has been producing mezcal for six generations.
